To center a 4 jaw chuck, start by loosely mounting the workpiece. Use the chuck key to adjust two opposite jaws at a time. Rotate the chuck and use a dial indicator to check the runout. Adjust the jaws incrementally, alternating between pairs, until the runout is minimal. The process requires patience and repeated small adjustments to ensure the workpiece is properly centered.
